What's the Chain Campaign?
The Chain Campaign is a nationwide effort to promote Extra Hands - Grasping for a Meaningful Life from friend to friend. The way it works is pretty simple:
- Check out this NBC news story about Extra Hands and Jack Orchard.
- Download the Chain Campaign Letter which is a letter you can personalize and send to friends describing your participation in the campaign and inviting them to join you. A copy of the letter is below.
- Click on the cover images above to buy copies of the book. We recommend inviting at least two friends to join the Chain Campaign.
- Click on the "Count me in!" button above so everyone can see how many people are part of the campaign. In keeping with our privacy policy, this button does not collect any information about you or send any information about you to anyone. It's just a counter so everyone in the Chain Campaign can see how many people are participating.
That's it! Pretty easy huh? If you have other ideas about promoting the book, click here to let us know: jacksbook@extrahands.org. We would love to work with you to make your ideas come to life!
Sample Chain Campaign Letter
Dear _______________,
You won't believe this book! I just finished it and had to get a copy for you. It's so inspiring! It's by a guy named Jack Orchard who was diagnosed with ALS, Lou Gehrig's disease, at age 34. His doctor told him he had just 3 to 5 years left, but instead of giving up on life he got busy building a charity that helps other people with ALS and teaches young people how to be leaders. His charity is called Extra Hands for ALS and it's in nine cities around the country helping hundreds of ALS families and teaching thousands of students. Isn't that amazing?!
Extra Hands for ALS sends high school and college students into the homes of ALS families each week for two hours to help with chores and provide companionship for those who are homebound. Then each spring all of the students in their program design and hold public awareness initiatives to teach their peers and communities about the disease. They hold everything from bake sales and car washes to run/walks and golf tournaments, and each student is mentored throughout their whole term of service by an adult volunteer who coaches them on teamwork, leadership, and community service.
I think Jack's story has important lessons for everyone, especially young people, so I'm organizing a personal campaign to get his book out there and I need your help. I'm sending the book to a bunch of friends, and I'm asking them and you to read it, and if you like it, send it to at least two other people. In a way, you could say this is a chain letter without the gimmicks. No get-rich-quick schemes or promises of bad luck from not passing it on, but would you believe me if I said you'll win the lottery if you send the book to more than two people? OK, maybe not, but after you read Extra Hands - Grasping for a Meaningful Life I think you'll want to join my campaign.
If you do, here's how it works.
- Go to the Extra Hands website and check out this NBC news story about Jack and the book: http://www.extrahands.org/jacksbook.asp.
- On the website you'll be able to get a copy of this letter that you can customize.
- Buy at least two books and send them to friends who will want to join this campaign.
- Click the counter button on that page so everyone knows how many people are part of the Chain Campaign. That's it!
The price of the paperback version is $17.95 so with postage I'm asking you to spend about $40. I know it isn't cheap but please consider it! Keep the chain going!
Sincerely,
|
